We all experience moments in life where we are like a leaf falling from a tree. We want to cling to the branch but find we can’t. Ultimately, surrendering to the fall allows us to drop the struggle and find new ground.

Are you having trouble accepting something in your life that you cannot change or control? Perhaps you are feeling challenged in ways you didn’t expect during an unpredictable life season like parenting, caregiving, or grieving? Maybe you’re coming up against a challenging relationship or a diagnosis. These types of life experiences are confronting in every possible sense. I know from personal experience that having someone to walk alongside you and provide a soft place to land can make all the difference. I am still working at it too, but through glimpses of my own personal experiences, I know acceptance and surrendering control over what ultimately can’t be controlled is incredibly freeing. Even during challenge or crisis, there can be lightness.

This doesn’t mean we resign ourselves to suffering by any means. There are many things that can be controlled and attended to, and I work with clients to identify these areas, as well as their most important values to live by. When we mindfully divert precious energy into what we can control during a challenging season of life, we often attain personal growth that wouldn’t have been possible without personal challenge.
